Course Learning Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:
-Name the four training modules designed to provide basic support to HS programs to help them work with Latino fathers to build children’s literacy in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner.
-Explain what is this module provides a series of activities designed to increase understanding of the research- base regarding the importance of Latino father involvement in the growth and development of their young children. 
-Name the Impact of Positive Father Engagement.
-Name the purpose of Fatherhood Storybook Page.
-Name some examples of Fatherhood quotes.
-After completing this training, explain the Learning Objectives Addressed in This Module: What Latino Fathers Really Want.
-Name the most important social unit in the Latino culture and often include a large number of extended family members.
-Explain what is extremely important to learn about each Latino father.
-Parents want the best for their children and Latino fathers are no exception. Latino fathers are sometimes less aware that their involvement counts and they are unsure how to be involved, at times, as well. This provides a great opportunity for Head Start staff in that fathers care and do want to be involved, only they do not know-how. Therefore explain what is their responsibility.
-Explain what is a strong cultural tradition, and one of the ways that language is acquired in Latino communities.
-Explain why is it important for fathers to tell their stories to their children.
-Storytelling with these young children involves facial expressions, non-verbal communication, playing, talking, singing, etc. Explain what is related to interactions and storytelling with caregivers.
-Name several reasons why storytelling has been a part of so many cultures,
-Name the key to successful Latino father involvement.
-Explain how to make successful Latino father engagement possible.
-Name the possible barriers and solutions related to engaging Latino fathers in the education of their young children.
-Module 4 Activity #3 “Latino Fathers: Rolling out the Welcome Mat.” This activity could also be done using a walk-about format. wherein four flip chart pages are created with the following headings. Name the four headings.
-Explain what is designed to help prepare your program to provide services to Latino fathers and support their engagement in the lives of their children.
